For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
Traditionally this verse shows up throughout December as we celebrate the birth of Christ. But this verse has implications that reach far beyond a season, its implications are the source of our faith! It is the source of our joy, hope, and comfort.
It is confirmation of a prophecy. It is a reminder that God fulfills His promises.
It reminds us that things will not always be as they are. Dictators, politics, martial law, corruption, lawlessness… all the things we have become accustomed to with modern day government will be done away with when the government is on His shoulders. Can you even imagine that day?
Isaiah here was only able to prophesy about what people in the future would be fortunate enough to come to know personally. WE have the ability to know and experience Him through each of these traits now as Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, the everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace.
Is there any of those names, those traits of God that you need RIGHT NOW? Probably so! It’s my prayer that wherever you find yourself, whatever hardship or trial, whatever joy or sadness you find yourself in at this moment and in this season, that you would know and experience God in exactly the name you need! He will meet you at your need, He fulfills His promises.
